Eco-Friendly Laundry Products

Our clothes touch our skin all day long. They are well taken care of garments that should protect us from everyday elements. When we use chemical-based laundry detergent and dryer sheets while washing clothing, those toxic chemicals absorb into the fabrics and eventually into our bodies through the skin. Being exposed to this daily can wreak havoc on our skin and our health. Switching to a natural plant-based detergent can rid you of sensitive skin issues amongst other health problems.

Our skin is largest organ of our body, and it uses the action of sweating to detoxify our systems and cool us down. If our clothes have absorbed toxic chemicals while in the washer and dryer, they will seep back into our skin during the day while we move. Or even while we sleep at night from our bedding. Our bodies sweat at night to detoxify from the previous day, so it is important that the clothes and socks we wear to bed aren’t saturated with chemicals from detergents.

Chemicals found in common detergents include sodium luaryl sulfate, dioxane, nonylphenol ethoxylate, artificial fragrances and even formaldehyde. Chemicals found in most dyer sheets include alpha terpineol, benzyl acetate, benyl alcohol and even chloroform. All listed are either known carcinogens according to the CDC or cause other health issues for the skin, liver, pancreas and respiratory system.

Another upside to switching to a natural detergent is that most new companies are concentrating on eco-friendly, recyclable packaging benefiting the earth as well as your health. They provide you with detergent sheets that tear into load strips inside recycled paper packaging. Throwing away a giant plastic detergent jug every time we’ve finished it is absurd these days and most of these items do not make it to the recycling plant to be reused.
